On 22nd October 2008 The Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Student Association - UiTM Chapter ( final semester students) and the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM) had organized a Seminar on Public Relations Education Landscape in Malaysia. The Seminar was held at Seminar Hall, UiTM International Centre starting from 8.00 a.m and finished at 5.00 p.m. The participants included public relations students, academicians, practitioners, government regulators, media and also IPRM members that can share and listen their opinions with notable speakers on the topic.
The Seminar was launched by Assoc.Prof.Dr.Ahmad Redzuan Abd Rahman, Assistant Vice Chancellor ( Corporate Communication AND International Relations) Universiti Teknologi MARA. After that, the IPRM Public Relations Educator’s Chapter also was officially launched by Dato’ Haji Mohd Hamdan Hj Adnan, President, Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM). For the information, the idea of setting up the IPRM Public Relations Educators’ Chapter was first conceived at a Public Relations Educators Dialogue on March 1,2008 at the IPRM office in Bangsar, which was attended by representative from various universities and colleges.
The objective of the Seminar is to showcase and discuss the current status of Public Relations education in Malaysia, it also to examine what improvements can be made to Public Relations education such as the possibility of international benchmarking and a standardized syllabus for the teaching of course nationwide. Other than that, is to discuss the marketability of Public Relations students in the industry and steps that can be taken to ensure that public relations education meets the needs and demands of the industry. The objective of the seminar was accomplished due to good feedback from the participants in Q&A session and the knowledge of Public Relations field in Malaysia was higher than expected because more and more people interested in this field.
There were about 250 participants and speakers attended the Seminar. They were from Public Relations and Communications students, other universities students such as INTI and Lim Kok Wing, Academicians such as lecturer and Practitioners, Government Regulators, Media and also IPRM members who joined and support our Seminar.
In conclusion, I want to congrats all part 6 students ( Public Relations Programme, Faculty Of Communication an Media studies for completing our final project. Thanks again. Not to forget our project adviser Assoc. prof Dr. Kiranjit who really supportive in order to make sure our Seminar success.
